Throwing a Post-Holiday party is the best way to
chase away the winter blues that settle in following New Year’s. Here are some great party theme ideas to get
your creative juices flowing!

Winter Warming Party: Set up a hot chocolate
mixing station, where guests can create their own custom blend of hot chocolate mix, using your own homemade
hot cocoa and a variety of toppings. Toppings such as; crushed peppermint, Heath
bars, chocolate shavings or sprinkles, chocolate chips, and of course,
marshmallows. Have candy sticks and chocolate
dipped spoons on hand for stirring in flavored coffee syrups and flavored
liquors. For your décor, use colors like
blue, green and white. Use shapes such as snowmen and
mittens. I have created all the
printables you need for this Winter
Warming Party.
Winter Luau: Shorts, skirts and flip-flops are
required for the guests, serving Margaritas
and guacamole
are a must, and the heat should be turned up in the house to simulate warm
summer temperatures. Go all out with
décor; A classic luau calls for tropical decorations such as tiki torches and
leis, but give these decor items a decidedly winter touch, wrap twinkle lights around the base
of the tiki torches. Make themed leis made of all-white paper snowflakes. Set up a tiki bar, but toss fake snow across the top
of the bar. For centerpieces, fill beach buckets full of sand, and place
silk Hawaiian flowers in them. Or make "sand" snowmen using plastic
foam balls painted tan. Add sunglasses and leis to the snowmen to make them
party ready. Hang paper snowflakes and beach balls from the ceiling to marry
the two divergent party themes. Your invitations should combine the winter and
luau ideas. Include a picture of a Snowman surfing or select an image of the
beach as your invitation backdrop, but attach small snowflakes to it. Use
wording such as "Get out of the cold and come to the island! Join us for a
winter luau party!"
Beat the Winter Blues: Go all out with the
color blue, using accents of silver and white; cover your table in blue
tablecloths. Place vases full of fresh blue flowers such as hydrangeas around
the party site. Put blue light bulbs in some fixtures, or enhance the mood with
blue candles. Serve blue food and drinks. Such as blue cupcakes, blue
M&M's, blue corn tortilla chips and blueberry
mojitos, or non-alcoholic smoothies with blueberries and ask party goers to
wear blue. For entertainment, play blues
music, or "blue" songs such as "Blue Suede Shoes" by Elvis
Presley. Play "The Blues Brothers" or Blue Man Group DVD in the
background. Of course the invitations
must be blue, bright and shiny. You can decorate them yourself with everything
from blue sequins and glitter to blue string and tissue paper. Or you can go
another route with music notes and pictures of typical "blues"
instruments (saxophone, piano, horns, etc.) that read something like; Got the
Winter Blues?
Be sure to include all of the details about your
event, including the location, date and time of the party. If you want guests
to wear costumes or bring their own beverages, indicate this on the invitation,
as well
I hope you enjoy these winter parties! If you use
one of these themes please email me a few photos to share!
